Managed Internet Security, The New Home Business
By Warren Franklin
Managed Security is the future of individual, home and small business computer protection. Today’s over-the-counter and free solutions from Internet providers aren’t keeping up with cyber-crime opening the door for a huge computer security business opportunity for non-tech and tech savvy people.

I’m Warren Franklin, a home-computer security advocate. I became caught up in computer security about two-and-a-half years ago. Prior to getting involved, like most people, I thought the over-the counter, free and shareware products were good enough to protect someone like myself.

When friends, family and associates found out I was building a computer security business, many told me I was getting into a dead end business. Especially since I am not a computer security technician. They said sooner than later someone will discover a solution to this computer security problem. When that happens I would be on the outside looking in.

Yet this year, from every report I have read, is the worst ever when it comes to cyber-crime. Over $65 Billion in cyber-crime occurred last year and the numbers are forecast to go up this year.

Identity theft is out of control. The FBI says nine out of ten businesses were impacted by cyber-crime in 2005. 100 million Americans are vulnerable with their personal information jeopardized due to data breaches. Over nine million ID’s have been stolen every year since 2001.

Computer crime has become big business. Hackers have turned from curiosity to money using aggressive fraud and theft tactics. As a result, the computer security business has become big business, too.

Here is information from the latest surveys and reports:
·Symantec recently reported that over six million around the world are under the control of hackers spewing out Spam, Trojan horses and other spyware.
·Sophos (a corporate computer security company in the Great Britain) stated in January 2007 over 7,000 new viruses and spyware were detected on the Internet.
·90 percent of all e-mails around the world are Spam according to Postini, a San Carlos, California based e-mail security firm. They reported that Internet Spam volumes increased by 60 percent in September and October of last year. The volume of Internet Spam is one of the measures of Internet crime.

It’s apparent that the over-the-counter and free security solutions from Internet providers aren’t keeping up with the crisis. A Yankee group report stated that 99 percent of companies had anti-virus technology installed, however 62 percent of the companies suffered successful virus attacks. Meanwhile, Australia’s Computer Emergency Response Team says the two most popular and deployed anti-virus products fail to prevent 80 percent of new viruses.

Spyware detection has become the number one concern according to computer security administrators. Many are saying the problem is 100% worse than a year ago. Spyware requires a different code than anti-virus solutions use. Anti-virus and signature codes that

over-the-counter and security offered by Internet providers were not built to expertly remove spyware. A much stronger computer security solution is needed.

There is a critical need for better home and small business computer security.

Major corporations are using professional grade, over-lapping services that have proven to keep hackers out. The technologies they deploy go far beyond what the over-the-counter and free security solutions provide. The result: hackers have shifted their focus to individuals, homes and small businesses. These are places where there’s less money to invest in top quality technologies for computer security. They are easier prey for cyber criminals.

Hackers have hit the jackpot

The Symantec report states that there are 30 percent more under the control of hackers today than a year ago. They don’t see the problem going away, either. One of the fathers of the Internet, Vincent Cerf states that of the 600 million currently on the Internet around 100 to 150 million are part of hacker’s networks called botnets. He likens the situation to a ‘pandemic.’

What If There Was A Computer Security Solution And You Could Make Money Sharing It?

The computer security field is ripe for a new managed Internet security service that provides the same protection that big corporations use. It’s well known that criminals look for the easiest prey and normally will pass on the tougher targets. This service makes a computer almost impossible to break into meaning that hackers will look for easier prey and leave the well-protected computer alone.

The cool part, average non-tech individuals are taking advantage of this computer security business opportunity! You don’t have to be a computer technician to get in on the ground floor. There has never been an opportunity for anyone to start a small business in computer security without being an expert before. You are definitely in the right place at the right time.

As cyber-crime increases the public will become more aware that over-the-counter and free computer security doesn’t cut it. That’s where this managed Internet security service will step in. That’s where individuals in home businesses will step in to protect millions of computers.

The computer security profession is as much about helping other people as it is making money. You can see this problem isn’t going away any time soon. So, the computer security business won’t be going away any time soon, either. This makes for a great computer security business opportunity for both tech savvy and non-tech people to get ahead of the curve and jump into this industry.
